This Morning host Ben Shephard warned Miriam Margolyes: ‘Don’t do this’ when she opened up about being described as ‘brutish’.
The 84-year-old actress played Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter film franchise, as well as appearing in Little Shop of Horrors, Mulan and Martin Scorsese’s The Age of Innocence.
Known for speaking her mind whenever she’s being interviewed, Miriam has been open about her health after undergoing a procedure in 2023 to replace an aortic valve.
Appearing on Thursday morning’s (September 4) edition, Miriam’s interview with Ben and Cat Deeley got off to a vulgar start when she discussed her recent ‘poo test’ following a segment on dog health earlier in the show.
“I was told not to disturb anyone in the morning. You mentioned dogs getting a poop test, I got a poop test this morning. It was vivid and difficult. I don’t want to go into details, I just want to tell people that they should get a poop test, it’s very important and I could save your life.”
“This lasted a little longer than expected. I’m sure it was fine, it can be a little confusing and I think the doctors should find a better way to figure it out. I put him in a perfume bag to soften the blow.”
With Ben asking a series of follow-up questions, Cat asked if he was “trying to encourage her” as she mentioned that her driver “doesn’t know where to look” when he plays the audiobook from A to Z.

“I wanted to call him… oh no, I can’t say that. I can spell it,” she asked. Quickly cutting Miriam off, Ben blurted out, “No, no, don’t do that either.”
After saying she wanted to say “something starting with a you can’t say,” Miriam admitted she “doesn’t mean to be rude.” “I consider myself quite sophisticated. What can I do,” she joked.
Later in the episode, Miriam revealed that she stands up to Arnold Schwarzenegger from their time working together in the late days of 1999.”
“Talk about a case of poop, can I say a spelling of Uranus? I started it because it was there. If it’s there, it should be left out. He did it deliberately when I was in a compromised position.”
“I was Satan’s sister Mable and he was slitting my throat with a glass table in the movie. I was lying there half-dead and he exhaled air in my face, it was vile.
“I don’t know what to say, I don’t like it. If you have to go, you have to go. You’re not planning on someone,” she said, leaving Ben and Cat in stitches.
She added: “It’s like in an elevator, there’s elevator etiquette. If you let it out when it’s empty and the door opens, you have to own it.”
